Lead Pipe Survey
During 2024 and 2025 a survey was performed to find out if there are lead pipes in Sunset Water District,
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) are assisting water districts to inventory their water service lines and to replace, if necessary, any lines that contain lead.
Initially, residents were asked to check the water lines coming into their houses to see what material the pipe was made from. Of those that could not be determined, a statitical sample was selected for direct examination. At these houses, holes were bored near the street to expose the water pipes. In almost every case, the pipes were found to be copper.
As a result of this statistical analyis, CDPHE has determined that there are no lead water lines in the Sunset Water District. We also perform annual testing for lead in the water, and have never detected any. We are happy to report that our water is safe.
